Tripod pinch strength and thumb opposition are the major determinants of manual dexterity in CharcoteMarieeTooth disease type 1A

چکیده
Background Clinical features of CharcoteMarieeTooth disease type 1A (CMT1A) include slowly progressive distal muscle weakness, atrophy and sensory loss. Upper-limb involvement results in reduced manual dexterity interfering with the execution of daily activities. Objective To identify which hand function impairments are determinants of manual dexterity in CMT1A. Methods In a cross-sectional, observational study, hand function (strength, mobility and sensory function) and manual dexterity (Sollerman hand function test) were evaluated in adults with CMT1A. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the independent contribution of hand function variables on manual dexterity. Multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN) patients were chosen as a reference group with only

متن کاملReliability of Pinch Strength Testing in Elderly Subjects with Unilateral Thumb Carpometacarpal Osteoarthritis
[Purpose] The aim of this study was to examine the test-retest reliability of pinch strength testing in elderly subjects with thumb CMC OA. [Subjects and Methods] A total of 27 patients with unilateral right-thumb CMC OA (mean ± SD age: 81.3 ± 4.7 years) were recruited. Each patient performed three pain-free maximal isometric contractions on each hand on two occasions, one week apart. Three dif...

Background and purpose: Functional disabilities due to stroke produce a wide range of problems in daily activities. Rehabilitation approaches focus on preventing and reducing contractures and deformities. But constraint-induced therapy focuses on improving the performance of hemiplegic patients. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of constraint-induced therapy on strength a...
متن کاملThe effects of a short thumb opponens splint on hand function in cerebral palsy: a single-subject study.
An AB single-subject research design was used to assess the effectiveness of a short thumb opponens splint on hand function in a 4-year-old girl with cerebral palsy. Baseline data for active range of motion, grip and pinch strength, grasp patterns, the Box and Block Test of manual dexterity (Mathiowetz, Voland, Kashman, & Weber, 1985), and 1-in. cube stacking were collected twice a week for 4 w...

OBJECTIVE To assess the prevalence and significance of impaired manual dexterity in hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy type 1a (HMSN 1a), with the Sollerman hand function and the Functional Dexterity test, and compare the reliability and agreement of the tests. DESIGN Descriptive cross-sectional study. SUBJECTS Forty-nine subjects with HMSN 1a. RESULTS Forty-six (94%) subjects had an...
